Woke up this morning to decent skies so the challenge of riding to Bogus was a go. Had some concerns since my riding log isn’t quite as full as last year. Although, I have made the ride to Hilltop four times this year. Filled up the water bottles, tossed a Powerbar and Cliff bar into the jersey pocket and headed off at 8:15A. Getting right to the point:
• Made the 15.5 mile climb in 1:00:07.
• Got passed by a few riders, even a couple that looked my age!
• Max speed on the downhill 37MPH!
• Even got passed on the downhill by a guy that was really cruising.
• Total time for the 41.4 mile ride 3:27:35.
So I still have the legs to do it. But I will admit the post ride isn’t quite the same as it used to be. As before satisfied the mid climb watermelon hallucinations upon return home. Nothing like three pounds of ice cold watermelon to quench the thirst. I still am confused though – where does all the water in a watermelon come from?
Considerably more traffic, bikes and vehicles, then in the early days. Course several of the vehicles have mountain bikes in or on them. Never understood why they don’t just ride up. More riders too. And seems to be more gals making the climb. Boise is a great place to be a bicyclist, regardless of their bonehead desire to to make the downtown streets uber safe for casual riders. But, that’s a different story.
Cheers!
